Looks the statistics we use to determine what to oders didn’t update for a few days.
The password expired and the script could not access the store API to fetch new data.
Luckily we didn’t place any large orders while this happened.
DHL update
We did a major update of the DHL shipping module in our shop software.
You can now select a DHL parcel station on a nice map
and we are prepared for the next major version of the shop software in a few month.
(We are waiting for a compatible version of a special, German plugin needed to display base prices per 1L/1Kg for bottles of lubricants. A feature required by law.)
Now we will have to wait for the first customer to create orders with the new module, to verify that (bulk) printing and our own extensions are still working as designed. We know that it still does work with orders that already exist.
Minor catalog outage
A software update of Elasticsearch has caused our shop listings to be empty as the service failed to restart after the update.
This has now been fixed and the shop is no longer empty.
Sorry.
Covid 19 shipping update
As announced earlier, the +2.2€/Kg Corona surcharge by DHL for shipping to the US has been removed from our shop.
Effective tomorrow.
We had to fight some technical issues with the shop software that prevented us from uploading the new shipping rates. But these have been fixed.
Inventory counted done
We’re in the middle of our yearly post-Eurofurence-inventory count.
As a result the following out of stock products are in fact in stock again:
Mistake fixed – FurryStyle toy: FOX PAW
We are currently performing our yearly post-Eurofurence inventory counting.
While doing that we noticed a grave mistake.
All 3 variants of the FurryStyle FOW PAW have only been visible by search and not in the catalogue. Aparently this was the case since their premiere in March.
SORRY.
As everyone on the FurryStyle announcements mailing list already knows,
FurryStyle has released some new toys.
From the announcement:
These cuties have been carefully designed with a smooth, satin finish and leathery paw pads.
They are ment to be enjoyable for gentle stroking and massaging as well as internal use.
Depite their unusual shape, the claws and curves are crafted to make them into a usable and easy to clean toy for the later.
These cute, little paws willbe available in all 3 sizes with the standadized size categories and prices you have come to expect of FurryStyle.
You can find them in the YiffyToys shop already. We have also added photos with size comparisons for a few other toys
Tiny Fox Paw (15cm for 25.50€)
Mini Fox Paw (17cm for 36€)
There are some production issues.
So the (regular Fox Paw (23.5cm for 56€) will be available shortly.
We will write a short blog posting when these become available.
The virus situation
Despite the current situation with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, the YiffyToys shop is still open and your orders are being shipped.
Especially within Germany there are no issues with DHL or regular Hermes parcels. However if you want your parcel delivered via Hermes Shop2Shop, please make sure that the chosen destination is actually open for business.
There are some limitations imposed by DHL for regions of the world that are completely locked down and DHL added an additional +16€ for all shipments to the United States.

DHL shipping to NL fixed
A while ago we automated our shipping fee calculation due to all of DHLs Corona-fees for different countries. It seems while doing so we have forgotten the Netherlands in the big table of country codes.
So for NL (but not the Netherland Antilles) only „pickup at converntion“ would show up and no „DHL shipping“.
This has been brought to our attention this morning and we have just been able to fix it.
We are also asking DHL for clarification on what Corona-fees for different countries are still in effect as there have been a large number of changes we have to incorportate for different countries and DHL’s updates are purely incremental.
Storm – no shipping today
There will be no shipping today because of a severe storm warning.
No big deal. Since we shipped yesterday.
There is also a strong heat-wave since serveral days that is slowing down the production at FurryStyle.
Nothing we can do about the weather.
Regarding pressure selling
Because the topic of „pressure selling“ was in the news today,
we’d like to explain one of the things our shop software automatically does:
Because we import many toys from overseas, it does take longer for bulk orders to arrive. In the mean time there are often toys that do get out of stock. We try to prevent this from happening but it is unavoidable that this does happens. Sometimes the manufacturer has a minimum order quantity or only no other toys from this manufacturer need restocking. Then it may even stay that way for a short while. However unless it is stated otherwise, all these toys will be back for sale later.
Because this is happening regularly, we do show a reminder „only N left“. This is done automatically if and only if very few are left in stock.
The number shown comes directly from our inventory management system. At any time, it should precisely reflect the number we have left in stock that are not reserved for recent orders. Due to orders being cancelled or simple human error (e.g. a simple mistake in the last inventory count or counting an L toy as the XL version,…) that number may sometimes go up again. This is not typical behavior but it does happen.
Improved statistics
Why is this important for you?
Yes, this topic sounds boring.
However statistics are the difference between a toy being out of stock or in your hands and between stocking too many of one toy or having the funds to add an additional model to our inventory.
We are a very small company and have limited money to work with.
Last year
Last year in February we made a huge leap by going from educated guesses and estimations to actual statistics for predicting how many toys to restock.
This has made visible a large number of overestimations, wrong impressions and wishful thinking.
It worked much better then human intuition but we did notice a few oddities here and there. Especially around the Christmas holidays, around the sales during Eurofurence or when we where away for MMC or H-Con.
This year
This year we went even further.
Since YiffyToys exists long enough to go back many, many years and we have all the additional values collected since last year, we can now scientifically evaluate how well our predictions match reality.
First, we defined a huge collection of test cases.
Then we very carefully defined the actual metric to optimise for.
And finally we went to compare different ways to do predictions.
Again the results where very surprising and sometimes counter intuitive.
However we know for a fact that our new statistics produce results that are easily 3 times more accurate then before.
